Minutes March 2013
ATTENDEES: Members-Tim Massey, Charles Bishop,
Ed Ruch, Pam Etheredge and Robert Etheredge.
Dawn Coleman and Ken Testor represented the park.
>Our expenses and balance for the friends group
are listed on the treasurer’s report that Ed has
posted for this month.
> The chairs for the office and the museum room
have come in and are going to be picked up by Ed so
they will be at this month’s meeting.
> Ed has also has applied for a credit card for the
>Ken filled us all in on Marks progress on getting back
to normal after his accident. Then he announced that
Mark has officially retired as park manager of the park
and Ken is our new manager, until the State decides
> Ken stated that he will buy mulch for the playground
area through the parks budget. This was talked about at
the last meeting for the Friends group to purchase. But
there will be other things needed for our group to buy
because of cutbacks by the state.
> Masters Gardeners need to plan for the garden spot
as well as around the monument area as well. He will
discuss these things with Heather and Diane soon.
> A few more trees are needed to be planted around
the area also. A fast growing tree, the larger the better
when planted, that is native to the area will be the best
to buy. Ken has stated that they want to eventually do
away with most of the pines.
> Another point that Ken has brought out is that he
wants to attract more people to the pool area this
summer by purchasing a basketball hoop which he would
like the group to purchase. It may be as much as $500.
> The Antique Tractor group of Greeneville will be at
the Craft Show this year and wish to sell T-shirts, etc. For
the event so we need to discuss whether to charge a
minimal fee for them that may be around $25 or how
> Ken also has brought up the subject of whether or
not John the Hotdog guy that was at the Mt. Melodies
event could consider setting up at the pool area to sell
hotdogs on days that would be good for him to come.
Pam will check with him about this and report back to
> Because of the large pile of tree cuttings from storm
damaged trees on the park grounds this past season we
will not have to buy wood for selling to campers this
summer. This is a definite plus for the Friends Group.
> And lastly the subject of our plans for this summer’s
Crockett Days event will be discussed at our meeting this
Thursday, so please be there and help us to decide how
we should plan for this important event for the park.
> Keep in mind that our nominations for the new Board
members as well as vacant positions is coming up in June
so please think about helping us in any of the areas and
whether or not you can help. The positions of Secretary
and President will be open also.
You’re Secretary, Pam E.
